Options for adding a markup in Foodclub

Here are the 3 possibilities of how to do a markup in Foodclub:

1. First option is to simply do the markup per item, in the product database. This makes the markup hidden from the user completely, so they don't know what the wholesale price is, nor the markup on it. All they see is the price when shopping. They see the final item price in their Shopping cart, and everywhere else, right through to final Invoices.

The way you do this, is by adjusting the "price" column in your private database. You have to use a private database because the official databases in Foodclub are wholesale prices. So you can just copy an official into private, and run an SQL command to add your markup. You can get complicated with it too, by marking up some categories of items differently than others. Here is a wiki FAQ explaining the details:

The only drawback of option 1. is you have to run the copy to private + update prices procedure before every order cycle.

2. Second option is to let users shop by wholesale price, and then add the markup as a member fee. You set member fees as a percentage on User maintenance. They get added to users' Invoices as a single line item, which is a percentage total of their entire order.

The only drawback of option 2 is that users don't see their final costs until Invoice. While they are shopping, they see the wholesale prices, and have to just mentally add their member fee percentage. But note that you (as admin) can e-mail out preliminary Invoices at any time, before the actual final delivery.

3. Third option (very similar to 2.) would be to just use the custom invoice fees in the system to add markup. This is basically the same as 2., the only difference is you could have a different markup for different vendors. The drawback is you have to add the fees on the Invoice after each order cycle (before archiving), as they don't carry over across an archive operation.
