Only split on an item is removed - split stays listed

Postby momaro20 (deleted) » Wed Dec 04, 2013 9:35 am

I looked to see if I could find anything on this topic, but I didn't so I'm posting new... sorry if this is a repeat.

It appears that when a single user in a split decides to delete themself from the split, the item stays in the list of splits with no user shown. This seems confusing. Shouldn't it just go away and if someone else decides to add that as a split later it would just come back as a new split?

Thanks for your help!

Yes, this has been asked before, probably just over e-mail, not forums. It could have been designed that way back before lots of users, but unfortunately there are (edge) cases where users like it the way it works now.

For example, many clubs like to pre-enter a bunch of split items for their members to choose from. This requires splits to be able to exist without any users in them, since the admin user enters them all at the start of an order cycle.

You could say it's possible to support this, but then if someone has joined a split and then removes themself, the split should be deleted. But users have gotten used to it working the way it does now, and some still add and immediately remove themself to start a split. (instead of the newer way of entering Qty 0 in the search results to add an empty split)

Since empty splits can easily be deleted by admin users, the choice of keeping the way it works now or changing it (and making users get used to it) is a glass half full / half empty decision. Since leaving it requires no work, and doesn't make any users have to get used to a new way, it seems the easier course, even if it causes some confusion for newer users.
