Ordering for only one village

Postby christiancoop » Sat Oct 27, 2012 8:46 am

I'd like to open up an order but only for members of a single village, or sometimes for 2-3 villages.
Sometimes a truck is only delivering in a certain area and only certain villages are close to that area.

Is this possible? I don't think it is but would love to add it to the "Enhancements List". :D

Any thoughts? Anyone else need this?

So essentially you want to have an order unlocked for some villages, but leave it locked for others. So people in some villages are prevented from ordering.

No, this feature does not currently exist. It would not be too difficult, but a warning: it wouldn't be all that secure because users have the ability to change their village on their User settings. Although I guess if they changed their village, they would also be accepting to get the order delivered in a different location.

Yes, if this feature would help other clubs, please chime in. Features usually only get priority until at least two buying clubs ask for them.

This feature is now available. See the Village mode settings section of Source settings.

I would like to request one change to the way this works. If a Source is locked to a village, then people from other villages should not be able to see the Source in the Source Drop Down List. Is that possible?

Yes, actually should be pretty easy. Just an oversight- would have done it before if I thought about it.

Hmm, I began to implement this, but in working on it I realized that users are allowed to change villages (from their default) for only certain sources. The "village for order" drop-down menu allows them to do this.

If I disable the navigation to the sources completely, which they can't normally order from in their "home village," then it would also prevent them from choosing a different village for that vendor. i.e. maybe they're willing to drive across town if they want products from a vendor bad enough.

So if I'm going to add this, I think it has to be an optional feature, set in Global settings. The setting will explain the above, that enabling it - to hiding of sources the user doesn't have access to in their home village - also prevents users from choosing a different village just for that source.

Do you still want it, knowing the above?

Yes, I still want it. But it would be even better if there was an optional setting for the Admin to be the one to assign villages, NOT the end user. Then the user wouldn't be switching back and forth to try to sneak into other orders!
